Thank you, Madam Chairman, today I rise to speak on Item A, Contracts and Tendering, in particular with reference to the $650,000 contract that's in there for the internal design and fit-out of building including display technologies and interactive elements. As the LORD MAYOR touched on this is for the Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre. I'm sure many people here who have been in this place a lot longer than me have never thought they'd see the day when this would actually eventuate. But in reality the budget is there. It's $7 million in the budget.
As we've said the vision is for a discovery centre which combines a created indoor building space, with an interactive outdoor nature learning and play space, which will help people to discover and be inspired by the fascinating stories and values of the Karawatha Forest. Local media has taken a bit of an interest in this project recently which has been wonderful so I'm hoping that more and more of the community will take this project on board. As I mentioned to one of the media outlets recently, I would like the discovery centre to be the to-do list for people when they come to Brisbane.
I can only hope that occurs and I know that I have great faith in Councillor BOURKE leading the team and Council officers, and the work that has already been undertaken in this project. I've already mentioned previously about the community consultation that we held out in the forest back in May, June last year. Very strong support was received. Construction is expected to commence sometime June, July, August this year, with a projected completion being by June 2015. I for one am really looking forward to that day. Thank you
