Press Release - Council tackles congestion hotspot in Sunnybank Hills, Beenleigh & Pinelands Road

Brisbane City Council has improved congestion at the intersection of Pinelands Road and Beenleigh Road in Sunnybank Hills with the completion of a $184,000 congestion busting project.

Councillor for Runcorn Ward, Kim Marx said the provision of a second 60-metre right turn lane would reduce congestion in both morning and afternoon peaks.

“The intersection of Pinelands Road, Mains Road and Beenleigh Road carries approximately 75,000 vehicles per day, with approximately 6,000 vehicles per hour in both morning and afternoon peaks,” Cr Marx said.

“An additional right turn lane ensures vehicles turning right from Pinelands Road into Beenleigh Road do not queue across the adjacent through lane, reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.

“This administration is continuing to deliver real action on traffic congestion to keep Brisbane on the right track, with over $516 million dedicated to projects attacking congestion this financial year.

“We have a positive plan for this city and this funding will provide significant benefits for the road network and ensure Brisbane has the infrastructure it needs to keep heading in the right direction.”
